I'm new to Linux and KnoppMyth. I tried to install Linux and MythTV on my VIA Epia EX10000EG with C7 processor, using the KnippMyth R5.5 CD. After booting from the CD, I entered "tv" (for testing, playing, fine-tuning I use both a TV and a CRT) I get:
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init.
I get this message, before I can choose between the 6 options "Frontend, Auto install, Auto upgrade, Manual install, Reboot, Quit". The harddisk is a brandnew WD 320 Gb, connected as master to IDE 1 (not to IDE 0, I don't know why, I only have one IDE port). The DVD player is a slave on IDE1. The harddisk has no partitions, nothing yet. I've tried to boot with other boot options from the CD, but all give the same error: Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init.

I found this but that doesn't provide an anwser. RAM voltage adjustment isn't possible and I tried toggling AGP settings.

Can anyone help me?

At this point R5.5 is being phased out R6 is available. I would suggest you start there.

since you're playing with a fresh install. get R6 instead of R5.5 as mattbatt suggested:

ftp://knoppmyth.net/R6/Current/
