Just to rub it in Smile...

I have a working homebrew IR blaster with R5A12. I used lirc-0.7.0. I had the "--tag=CC" error, but it worked after I:

1) Deleted the lirc-0.7.0 left over from the failed run (and myth-ledxmit.WIP)
2) Unpacked a clean lirc-0.7.0
3) did a "libtoolize --force" from within the lirc-0.7.0 directory
4) answered yes when it asked to run actools
5) ran the myth-ledxmit.sh script

I tried to set it up to use COM1, but it kept giving me a device in use error(yes I followed the instructions to disable the normal serial port driver). I changed it to use COM2 and bada-bing!

Here is a more indepth detail of what I did to get it working. Maybe it can help you. I am using R5A15
Make sure that your serial port is setup correctly and permissions for it are set so that everyone can write to it. I only have 1 serial port and I set mine up in the BIOS to run as a COM2.
I got it working too, but I use the Actisys200L. My grey remote wasn't working either so I decided to start at square 1. I did a thorough cleaning/removal of existing lirc and reinstall as per the mythtv docs:

This allowed my grey remote to work Then I followed the instructions at www.iwamble.net (using 0.7.1pre2). I had to remove the --tag reference, then do make, then had to remove it in another place and make again. I am using the Dish Network DP311 unit. I had to use JVC_RAW for my remoted.conf (posted below). I dont have any idea where I got it from, because I haven't been able to find it. I have no idea why I need this and most others use a premade file from the remotes directory at lirc...
Anyway, I just had to change my gap in remoted.conf to 175000 and it started working. I added /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh at the end:

Well, it was a rainy weekend and I upgraded my system from R4v5 to R5A15.1 and thanks to all the posts in the form, it all went very smoothly.

My R4V5 system was a:

Intel 815
PIII 1Ghz
512 Mg ram
Hauppauge 250 (new type)
HomeBuilt IR blaster to control my Expressvu 3100

I originally built the ir-blaster with directions from the page
http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/mythtv-info/MythTV_DISH_IR_LED_TX_via_Modified_LIRC.html

I started off by copying my custom change_chan.sh and ledxmitd.conf files off the R4 box and then editing edit /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv file and commenting out

I also had to comment out the both add lines at the bottom of the file, as well as the install and remove files.

After that I ran a Mythbackup, then I performed the autoupgrade with R5A15.1 and everything worked except the Hauppauge remote and my home built IR blaster.

New Hardware
Asus A333
AMD 2400 Xp
512 Mg ram
Hauppauge 250 (new type)
HomeBuilt IR blaster to control my Expressvu 3100

After the upgrade I opened up a terminal and found that the myth-ledxmit directory was still there so I changed into that directory

The directory looked like this

I then changed into the lirc-0.7.0 directory and ran libtoolize --force

I then exited the directory and made the script executable:

and then ran it against the lirc-0.7.0 directory

I then followed the rest of the directions from

Using the change_chan.sh and ledxmitd.conf files that I had backed up before the rebuild.

Oh and finally I ran the script

to ge the Hauppauge 250 remote working again. Everything is working great, actually much better than before.

I have a small minor glich but it is unrelated to all of this, and best mentioned in another post so I don't draw people off course.

The only error I ran into was the one about the kernel source files. I followed those instructions under the troubleshooting section and everything ran fine.

Now, when I tested my second instance of lirc, no problems and output was generated for each channel I selected. I added all of the info so that when booted my second instance would auto load and I rebooted my machine.

My PVR 250 remote works fine but my irBlaster does not. I purchased my irBlaster from here:

I don't have a digital camera handy to test with but I'm confident that it's in good working condition.

I think it's a setup issue. One thing I did NOT do was the
Code:
libtoolize --force

command since it was under the Fedora section and I'm using KnoppMyth. I did NOT get the
Quote:
--tag=CC
error!

Do I still need to run this code and could this solve my irBlaster issue? If this might help me, how should I go about removing the second instance of lirc?

Has anyone figured out whats going on with R5A16 and serial blasting?
My PVR 250 remote works fine, and my irBlaster from http://www.irblaster.info/ does not. I see no IR from either of my com ports with a digital camera. The modules and programs all start fine, with no error messages...but no IR...

Follow my links above and it will show you how to remove the default lirc and reinstall new lirc. The instructions are also in the mythtv docs I believe. That worked for me and I was able to get my Actisys 200L IR blaster working.

Starting with a clean wipe of lirc...

apt-get remove lirc lirc-modules-source lirc-x

seems to have done it. I had already tried a clean build and install of lirc_i2c and lirc_serial from lirc-0.7.1, but i guess the original config had something which conflicted.

but i want to be sure i dont kill another sunday fighting with this ir blaster. does anybody know of a writeup kicking around that actually works as well as the orignial one for R4V5?

also.. I see in this thread a couple of happy r4v5 users.. i'm happy too, except for the freezing when a recording is about to start.. did you work aroudn this bug? i have my power button killing mythfrontend and restarting it, but if i can avoid the freeze all together, that would be sweet.

i'm about to upgrade to the latest Knoppmyth and accordingly will update the instructions on my website(*) to reflect any of the latest nuances. that said, i have received several emails from folks indicating that they did not have any problems using my writeup with with the more recent versions of Knoppmyth. have you tried my writeup on the latest? does it not run straight through? what were the problems?
