Done!
Excerpt from mine:

We don't allow Janet Jackson's nipple on free TV, nor should we allow the broadcast flag. Let's leave that garbage on cable where it belongs.

I would support this movement, except I am from Aussie Land.

Down to Hollywood, maybe they should stop paying there actors so much and then they would have more money for themselves.

Q: one the folks in our local HDTV forum posed a question to me: "I thought this was dead", referring to the May 2006 court ruling. Hmm. I thought so too. I did some further reading at EFF and found:

Quote:
The fight isn't over yet, though. The flag's proponents at the MPAA will be headed to Congress to get authority for the rule, and we'll be looking for your help fighting that as well.

But it makes me wonder - is somehing afoot now? i.e. are they gearing up to ram some legislation through congress now? i.e. is this thread a response to an imminent threat, or just an ongoing thing that we should allways be vigilant about?

Did my part to stop the "Corruptibles", you guys notice the video has a MythTV box?

http://www.eff.org/corrupt

Cesman, Can you include that Corruptibles XviD in the next verions of KM and have it imported in MythVideo? (With copyright holder permissions) Twisted Evil That would be a good way to reach the more casual users that setup KM without help of this forum and don't know of these issues.

Yes, I know.
But I am wondering if this is like your pastor saying "get right with God" in church on sunday, or if it's like your airline pilot saying "get right with God, and assume the crash position".

Here is Feinsteins reply to me. Unfortunatly as they said on TWIT podcast, not enough people know about it to care about it. Until it is too late then were all screwed. I am all for people getting paid for thier work, and if I buy a song online or anywhere I want to be able to put it on my portable player or burn it to a cd or put it on my laptop for my own use. I just want to listen to the damn thing in more than once place than on my computer! Is that too much to ask?
Just like many other laws and bills that get passed, not enough people know and/or care so these people just keep getting re-elected forever until one day we'll have a 3rd world government where laws are passed by wealthy individuals that bribe elected officials or that overturn voter's ballot measures without fear of retribution or re-election from thier uninformed and uncaring public. One day that might just happen!?

Her office's email respone:
Thank you for writing to me about the Platform Equality and
Remedies for Rights-holders in Music (PERFORM) Act. I appreciate
hearing from you.

I believe that our nation's intellectual property is vitally
important and needs to be protected. In fact, the promotion of the
creative process is so important that our Founding Fathers gave Congress
the express authority to protect it in the U.S. Constitution. Still, we must
ensure that any protection afforded to intellectual property is also
balanced and fair to all who are affected by it.

The PERFORM Act, which I introduced with Senators Lindsey
Graham (R-SC) and Bill Frist (R-TN), would require satellite, cable and
Internet broadcasters to pay fair market value for the performance of
digital music. Currently, these providers are treated differently and pay
different rates even though, as technology advances, their services have
become increasingly similar. Additionally, the bill would require the use
of readily-available, cost-effective, and feasible technology to prevent
music theft.

As such, the PERFORM Act would help strike a balance
between the promotion of technological advances in digital music
delivery systems and the protection of, and fair compensation for, the
intellectual property of artists and musicians.

The PERFORM Act has received the support of various music,
artist, and songwriter groups, as well as digital music service providers.
However, let me say, I believe the bill as it was introduced is the
beginning of the legislative process; and while there may be
disagreements over how to strike the proper balance on these difficult
issues, I am certainly open to a robust dialogue. Please know that as the
legislation moves through the process, I will be sure to keep your views
in mind.

Again, thank you for writing. If you should have any further
questions or comments in the future, please do not hesitate to call my
Washington, DC staff at (202) 224-3841.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator Mad Mad

Here is Norm's response:

Dear Mr. Brendel :

Thank you for taking the time to contact me concerning the use of
broadcast flags for over-the-air digital broadcasts.

I share your concerns about preserving Americans' right to fair use of
copyrighted works. Finding a proper balance between the rights of
copyright holders and the citizens, who seek to use copyrighted works,
is a priority of mine. I believe that recording artists can protect and
profit from their creative works while protecting the rights of
consumers to use these works in appropriate circumstances.

I will continue to follow this important issue. I value your advice and
will take it into consideration should any legislation relating to this
issue come before the full Senate for a vote.

I appreciate hearing from you and hope you will not hesitate to contact
me on any issue of concern to you.

Sincerely,
Norm Coleman
United States Senate
